Historians are doing fascinating work examining the evolution of various media forms, and how politicians have used them for campaigns, to sway public opinion, and speak to voters.

We summarize some of the work in this area, and look at the elections of 1800, 1896-1900 and 1952-1956 to see how media shaped candidate strategies.

Our thanks to Purdue University for making the videos possible. The videos draw on the C-SPAN Video Library, housed at Purdue.
